Whether last minute trip or long planned, Merano is diversion
Not just the ideal destination for your hiking holiday: Whether you chose a last minute trip or whether you have long planned your holidays - Merano, the most charming city of South Tyrol, will enchant every visitor with its variety. Here, contrasts that might elsewhere seem incompatible come together in perfect harmony: alpine atmosphere meets with Mediterranean flair, down-to-earthiness encounters innovation, and the charm of a small city goes hand in hand with the overwhelming nature surrounding it – all this making your cultural and hiking vacation a unique experience.
Innumerable scenic and cultural highlights in and around Merano invite you to a discovery tour:

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff with the Touriseum: This absolute crowd puller consists of some of the most magnificent gardens you'll ever be likely to see and which will certainly be one of the highlights of your holiday in Merano. Here, you'll be able to admire more than 80 vegetations in an area of 8,5 hectare and take long walks along the 7 kilometre long promenades. Talk about a hiking vacation! At the interior of the Castle you'll find the Touriseum that will give you insight into the history of travelling – from its beginnings to today's last minute trips.

The Terme Merano: Right in the city centre there is a refuge for wellbeing – find perfect relaxation in this spacious facility that has everything you expect from a modern spa. 365 days a year.

The Merano Kurhaus on the Passer promenade: This Art Nouveau building is considered the emblem of Merano. It is the town's jewel and at the same time symbol for the long tradition of Merano as a health resort.

The Hippodrome: The hippodrome of Merano, built in 1935, is still one of the largest racecourses in Europe – a must for everyone who loves horses and horse races.

Merano Arte: Situated in a wonderful "Lauben"-house in the Merano arcades, this is the meeting point for those of you interested in contemporary art, architecture and literature. Don't miss out on it, you'll experience art of international renown!

Golf: To be active in Merano means more than just a great hiking holiday – you'll find two very diverse golf courses in close proximity to the city waiting to be discovered by you - the Golf Club Lana (about 20 minutes by car from the Burggräflerhof) and the Golf Club Passiria (about 20 minutes by car from the Burggräflerhof). Our particularly mild climate will permit you to enjoy this sport from February to December.

This century-old irrigation system consists of a net of small channels running along paths that are ideal for easy and pleasant hiking. Leading through meadows, orchards and woods, they will make you find quiet and inner peace. We particularly recommend our "house path", the charming Waalweg of Maia.

Castle Tyrol: In close proximity to Merano there is the medieval ancestral castle of the counts of Tyrol which, due to its importance, can rightfully claim the title of "cradle of the ancient shire of Tyrol". It hosts significant frescoes as well as unique roman portals, and its special exhibitions provide a first-class cultural programme, while its spectacular surroundings will be the ideal destination for a hiking vacation.

Train and Bike: With this special recreational offer it will be possible for you to take your bike in the "Vischger Bahn" train all the way up to Resia Pass. From there, you can very easily bike back downhill to Merano. Bikes can be rented and dropped at each of the six train stations along the route – and of course you can get on and off the train as you please!
