Medieval alleys make a charming contrast with the elegant Art Nouveau town houses – stroll through the historical centre of Merano and let the flair of history engulf you. Discover a city rich in history and unique in its cultural mix!

The Merano Kurhaus on the Passer promenade: This Art Nouveau building is considered the emblem of Merano. It is the town's jewel and at the same time symbol for the long tradition of Merano as a health resort.

The municipal theatre of Merano: Built in 1900, this beautiful theatre has a neo-classical façade with decorative Art Nouveau elements while the interior is held entirely in the Art Nouveau style. Next to the Merano Kurhaus, this building, that was quite renowned up until First World War, can be considered the most important example of Art Nouveau in town.

You'll find this small castle built in 15th century right behind the town hall. It contains an exhibit of historical weapons as well as a collection of antique musical instruments.

Merano Arte: Situated in a wonderful "Lauben"-house in the Merano arcades, this is the meeting point for those of you interested in contemporary art, architecture and literature. Don't miss it, you'll experience art of international renown!

The Christmas market: From November 26th, 2010 to January 6th, 2011 this wonderful traditional market in the city centre of Merano will again attract both young and old. Along the festively decorated Passer promenade you'll be able to try local specialties and admire old crafts. There is no place like this to experience a truly magical Christmas!
