MTB Tours in South Tyrol, Leisurely Hikes & More

Activities in the Outdoors Surrounding Hotel Burggräflerhof

There are many MTB tours in South Tyrol; the hiking routes, leading across the magical South Tyrolean nature, are equally numerous. Nevertheless, we in the Hotel Burggräflerhof in Merano/Meran would like to suggest you some tours, so that you won’t have such a hard time picking one MTB tour in South Tyrol or one of the many hikes.

Leisurely Strolls in Merano and Environs

Maiser Waalweg
open

This leisurely hike of about 2 hours leads you through the magical nature of Merano and Environs. First you walk to Scena/Schenna, at Schennerhof you take the path towards the Katnau and Leiter trail, leading across Innerleiterhof to the Maiser Waalweg. This trail lies just above the Ofenbaur Inn. Walk along the Maiser Waalweg towards North, reach via Schnuggenbach to Petaunerhof and finally to the Riffianer trail, bringing you back to Scena/Schenna and Merano/Meran.

Tappeiner Promenade
open

The most known trail in Merano/Meran, which was “blazed” and set up by the medical doctor Franz Tappeiner from Val Venosta/Vinschgau in 1893, is the Tappeiner Trail, suitable for the entire family, taking you along the slopes of Mt. Küchelberg. You walk eastwards from Gratsch to Merano/Meran and to the Gilf gorge for about 2.5 hours, until you reach the summer and the winter promenade. From the Passer promenade walk to the theatre square in the city centre. The public bus brings you back to Maia Alta/Obermais.

Sissi Promenade
open

This leisurely stroll takes you from the centre of Merano/Meran through Maia Alta/Obermais to the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, in summer a particular eye candy. After visiting the picturesque Empress Elisabeth Park, take a walk over the postal bridge towards the Old Town and turn right directly after the bridge into the winter promenade. At the stone footbridge cross the Passirio/Passer River and follow the signs through Maia Alta/Obermais, past Brunnenplatz, Reichenbach residence, Rubinstein Castle and Pienzenau Castle – until you finally reach the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle.

MTB Tours in Merano/Meran and Surroundings

Val Passiria/Passeiertal
open

The biking trail, leading to Val Passiria/Passeiertal, starts at the Empress Elisabeth Park. After a short uphill, the biking trail leads you into Val Passiria/Passeiertal on a relatively even trail, past Zeno Castle and the Lazag relaxation zone. The lake shore offers the ideal location to take a break. Then, the path continues along Passirio/Passer River until you reach the Schiefer fish-farm in San Leonardo/St. Leonhard. Go around the fish-farm and reach the bridge by the soccer field in Caines/Kuens. The next 4 km offer beautiful views over the apple orchards on both sides of the river. The bicycle path ends in the commune Quellenhof. To go back, take the same route.

Val Venosta/Vinschgau
open

From the Hotel Burggräflerhof take the route to the swimming pool in Lagundo/Algund and then follow the bicycle path, taking you from the Adige/Etsch River to Tel/Töll. From here you will arrive to Naturno/Naturns and soon you find yourself biking through orchards uphill to Ciardes/Tschars, Castelbello/Kastelbell and Laces/Latsch. Return by bike or train. If your fitness level is good, you can bike all the way to Malles/Mals and return by train to Merano/Meran.

Bolzano/Bozen on the South Tyrolean Bicycle Trail
open

In Merano/Meran take the Adige/Etsch bicycle trail to Cermes/Tscherms, then to Lana and across the orchards – always along the Adige/Etsch river bank – to Nalles/Nals, Ponte d’Adige/Sigmundskron and Bolzano/Bozen. You arrive directly at Walther square; enjoy the flair of the South Tyrolean capital and go explore. To come back, you can choose between the bicycle road and the regional train from the local train station.

These MTB tours are some of the most popular ones. Should you be interested in a more ambitious hike and MTB tour in Merano & Environs, our reception team will be delighted to provide you with more information.
