The hiking hotel in Meran between palms and peaks
Active pursuits begin on the doorstep of the Burggräflerhof, our hiking hotel in Meran. From the narrow streets of Obermais, you can head out into the hills and meadows, where the noise of the city slowly fades away. What remains is the scent of fresh grass, the sound of water, and the soft clang of a distant cowbell. Hiking in Meran and the surrounding area means discovering something new every time – yet never feeling lost. The landscape changes its colours with the seasons: bright green in spring, golden in autumn, white in winter.

Merano’s most renowned walking path, the Tappeinerweg, was constructed in 1893 by the Vinschgau physician Franz Tappeiner. Suitable for the whole family, it runs along the slope of the Monte di Merano/Küchelberg. From Gratsch, walk eastwards for approximately 2.5 hours to Meran and the Gilf Gorge, where you’ll reach the summer and winter promenades. Walk along the Passer Promenade to the theatre square in the town centre. Then take the local bus back up to Obermais.
This pleasant stroll takes you from the centre of Meran through Obermais to the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, a particularly splendid sight in spring and summer.
