Set off on a bike holiday in South Tyrol

For many cyclists, our bike hotel in Meran is the perfect starting point. The flat and peaceful Adige Cycle Path runs through orchards and past small villages, all the way to Bolzano. Ride as far as you fancy, stop somewhere for a cold drink, and catch the regional train back to Meran. This kind of exercise comes easily – no fixed destination, just wide eyes, fresh air, and big smiles.

MTB holidays in South Tyrol for those who want to go higher

The mountains around the Burggräflerhof, our mountain bike hotel in South Tyrol, offer plenty of trails to clear your head or push yourself to the limit – whichever you prefer. The Via Claudia Augusta takes you into the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley, through ancient cultural landscapes and past castles and chapels. Those who prefer something more challenging can bike up to the Hirzer Area or the Texel Group. Up there, the air is thinner, the views stretch wider, and the feeling of freedom intensifies.

In the Val Passiria/Passeiertal valley

The cycle path into the Val Passiria/Passeiertal valley starts in Empress Elisabeth Park. After a short climb, you’ll follow a relatively flat path into the valley, past Zenoburg Castle and on to the Lazag recreation area, where you can take a break by the lake. Continue along the Passiria/Passer River to the Schiefer fish farm in St Leonhard – go round it to reach the Passer bridge at the Kuens football pitch. The next four kilometres offer lovely views of the apple orchards on both sides of the river. The cycle path ends in the hamlet of Quellenhof, and you can retrace your steps to return.

Towards the Val Venosta/Vinschgau valley

Ride from the Hotel Burggräflerhof to the swimming pool in Algund, then follow the cycle path along the Adige/Etsch River up to Töll. From there, continue to Naturns, and before long, you’ll be riding uphill through the orchards to Tschars, Kastelbell, and Latsch. You can return by bike or on the Vinschgau Railway, depending on how you feel. If you’re in good physical condition, you can extend your bike ride to Mals and take the train back to Meran from there.

To Bolzano on the South Tyrol Cycle Path

From Meran, take the Adige Cycle Path to Tscherms, then continue to Lana and through the orchards – following the banks of the Adige – to Nalles, Sigmundskron, and Bolzano. You will arrive at Walther Square, where you can soak up the atmosphere of the provincial capital and enjoy a stroll through the town. Return via the cycle path or take a regional train from the nearby station.
